Join the Arts Council for Long Beach and Action Sports Kids Foundation (ASK Long Beach) in celebrating the many talents of inner city youth that ride in Long Beach skate parks. The festival style neighborhood art and photography event, ?Arts in Action?, will be held at the Michael K. Green Skate Park, 14th and Pacific Avenue on Saturday, October 20 from Noon to 4:00pm.
This interactive art event will feature live street art and youth from local skate parks and schools. There will also be many talented artists from the action sports industry. All will display their art and photography ? they will be available to discuss their work with event attendees.
There will also be a special exhibit featuring art from local autistic and special needs youth sponsored by the Long Beach nonprofit, Autism in Long Beach.
ASK will host several skateboarding and BMX demonstrations in the skate park throughout the day.?
The Michael K. Green Skate Park was named after a young man that inspired local inner city youth to stay out of gangs, off drugs and in school through skateboarding. Mike was an innocent victim of a gang related shooting in April, 2005. Within 3 years after the original skate park opened violent crime decreased 30% and drug related crime decreased 60%. This event will further the positive influence skate parks have on inner city kids by giving them the opportunity to show their many artistic and athletic talents.
Mike Donelon explains, ?ASK is proud to co-sponsor this first time event with Arts Council Long Beach. This will be a great opportunity for our cities at risk youth to involve themselves in the arts. We are looking forward to this being the first of many that our youth and the city will be proud of.?

Regardless of age, come on out to experience the convergence of skate boarding, art and youth who really care about our community,? says John Glaza, Interim Executive Director of the Arts Council for Long Beach.
This first time special event is co-sponsored by Vice-Mayor Robert Garcia, Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, Tony Hawk Foundation, Spohn Ranch Skate Parks and Long Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau.
